Melissa – Owner / Vet Nurse

Hi, I’m Melissa, I absolutely LOVE animals, and have been involved in working many types, from horses to hounds! Since moving to New Zealand from the UK nearly 11 years ago I have worked as a veterinary nurse, doing major surgeries to behavioral analyses. I have taught both puppy preschool and canine college for 6 years now and love meeting all the new puppies and helping them become part of your family.

Setting up a Doggie Complex has been a dream of mine for many years and it’s taken that long in research to come up with Grange Spa.
My family consists of me and my 2 beautiful dogs, Max, a Border Collie x Bull Mastiff and Siena, a miniature Collie. Both my babies are rescue dogs, Max was found beaten and sick on the side of the road at just 8 weeks old and as such is a real mummy’s boy!

We have an awesome team here and have all worked together now for years.

Kate – Manager / Vet Nurse

Hi, my name is Kate – you may recognize me from Animal Antics at the Mount where I was the Manager for 7 years. I am a qualified Veterinary Nurse (Qualified in 1995) and huge animal lover. I spent many years in Auckland working as a Vet Nurse / Practice Manager. I have been taking Puppy Preschool classes since Hills Pet Nutrition First introduced them to NZ. I have also trained my own dogs in Obedience & Agility, so can be found teaching classes and training my own dogs at the Mt Maunganui Dog Training Club. I currently share my bed with 2 border collies – Edge & Cruise. Cruise and I have been competing in Agility for the past 5 years, my younger boy Edge will start competing in May this year. So if you have an athletic dog and are interested in getting involved in agility feel free to have a chat with me.

Nicole – Assistant Manager

Nicole works in daycare at Grange Spa and has a fantastic relationship with all of our daycare kids.

Outside of work Nicole is mum to two teenagers, and Poppy a Lab x Staffy. You may recognise her familiar face as the owner of the former Bureta Park Tavern!

Rebecca – Head Dog Groomer

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I have been happily grooming pets for over 20 years.

I feel very privileged to have started my grooming career with the incredibly talented Pat Lovell (founder/director/my mentor) of Canine Capers, Tauranga. It was Pat’s passion for animals and her detail to her work, that made me realize that my path was to dedicate my working (and yes, largely my personal life!), to our furry four legged friends.

I moved on to Auckland after my formative years with Pat and continued my passion for pet grooming with Dianne Brodeur, director of Canine Cutters. Dianne further taught me the art of grooming terriers and spaniels in particular (her attention to detail in these areas was so beautific, that I always think of her when grooming these breeds). She also gave me the opportunity to manage her salon, for which I will always be so gratefully indebted to her. It was with great sadness but with much confidence, that I left Auckland with my family to move to Hamilton, on our journey back to Tauranga.

Whilst I was living in Hamilton – with my husband, my gorgeous step daughter Kyla, a Jack Russell, 3 cats and a cockatiel, Paul and I had two further children, Phoebe and Charlotte, to complete our human family.

Finally we made it back to Tauranga where I started my next journey as owner/operator of Hairy Hound (oh and an ever so slight love of German Shepherds). I started humbly from our garage, moved to The VetCare premise on Grange Rd – thank you VetCare! – and have loved every minute of it.

Through working from the VetCare premise, I had the opportunity to work alongside Melissa Hartley, vet nurse/receptionist. I realized early on that Melissa’s dream to run a daycare with ‘extras’ was not just an idyll fantasy, but a dream I wanted to be part of, an experience which would give me a new learning environment to further my love of animal behaviour and ethical beliefs.

It is with enormous pleasure and pride that I not only get to continue managing Hairy Hound, the grooming side of Melissa’s venture, but I also get to reap the benefits of all the extra activities Grange Spa will offer.

Antoinette – Assistant Dog Groomer

I am a married Mum of two school-aged girls who enjoys cooking and reading for recreation.

I met Rebecca after having her recommended as a groomer for my shihtzu, and then later on, my maltese. I liked what she did so much I started working for her.

Tash – Daycare/Dog Grooming

Tash works in dog grooming and daycare and has a fantastic relationship with all of our dogs! Outside of work Tash is also a mum to two teenagers, loves sports and relaxing with friends and family.

Susie – Head Groomer

I grew up in Wellington but have been living and working in Tauranga for just over two years and am loving it. I look forward to getting to know all of you and your awesome fur-kids.
